About Me

I’m Cheryl and the author of the Veteran’s Wife, Bariatric Life blog!

My husband is a USMC Infantry Veteran who suffers from PTSD and a TBI … two things I knew nothing about until I met him in 2015. He has an amazing 11-year-old son from his first marriage, to whom I get the honor of being called “step-mom” … well, full-time step mom actually. We also have 2 rescue dogs, who are like our other children and bring us lots of laughs and of course, love.

Personally, this is also my second marriage, and my second go-around with bariatric surgery! I had the LapBand in 2007, and after many years of issues, had it removed in 2015. I was cleared to have Roux-en-y, AKA Gastric Bypass, in 2018 and have been enjoying every moment of this 2ndopportunity!

I grew up and still reside in the Hudson Valley area of New York, where I work full time for a family company. I went to school for cosmetology, then automotive mechanics. Then I finally pursued my life-long dream of getting my Commercial Driver’s License so I could drive big rigs! Yup, that’s right… I can fix your car, do your nails, and drive a truck lol. I also spent many years drag racing as a hobby and let me tell you, that’s one hell of an adrenaline rush! I’m also an avid crafter in my free time.

I started this blog to get my experiences out there… what it’s like to have a husband with PTSD and a TBI, dealing with the VA, my experiences as a step mom, and my journey with bariatric surgery to happy, healthy life… and probably a little bit of everything in-between. I hope you enjoy reading! Don’t forget to check me out on Facebook and Instagram via the links below!
